About Me

My name is Philip Navarro, and my mission is to improve young people’s lives through direct support and teacher training, by promoting their strengths, addressing their needs, and helping them to understand and leverage their unique cognitive profiles.

My skillset includes executive functioning and social coaching in addition to multisensory teaching, and over the past fifteen years I have been a successful interventionist and classroom teacher across grade levels and content areas, as well as a productive teacher-trainer.  I have extensive experience with gifted students who benefit from academic, organizational, and social support.

I employ and promote evidence-based practices, and, where these are lacking or unsuccessful, I turn to interventions informed by high-quality research. I continually develop my skills and knowledge base in order to be the best possible resource for students, families, and teachers.

In addition to serving families in my private practice, I have extensive teaching experience across specialized and regular-education settings. My roles have included teaching Math, English, and Science at The Auburn School in Maryland (for social/communications challenges); teaching Math, Reading Comprehension, and Philosophy and serving as Director of Assistive Technology at The Greenwood School in Vermont (for language-based learning challenges); serving as Chief Learning Specialist at The Quad Preparatory School in Manhattan (for twice-exceptional learners); and serving as Middle School Learning Specialist and one-on-one accelerated math instructor at Browne Academy in Northern Virginia (a regular-education independent school).

A Washington, D.C. area native, I attended St. Albans School followed by St. John’s College (Annapolis and Santa Fe), completing its Great Books program. I hold an M.S. in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University and have undertaken extensive professional development to expand and sharpen my skills, including in executive functioning, social cognition, dyslexia remediation, and multisensory methods for math instruction at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
